Swim Lessons

The Center offers swimming lessions for children, featuring nine levels of instruction, and a class for adults. Registeration is available at at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center service desk weekdays from 8 AM-6 PM. For further information, call (313) 943-2350.

Participants over age 13 must also purchase a pool tag.

Parent and Tot (ages six months to three years): Parent must accompany the child into the water.
Preschool (ages three through five): Basic water and safety skills and rules.
Sea Shells (Beginner and ages six and above): Floating, submerging, breath-holding.
Sea Horses (Beginner): Crawl stroke, using a kickboard, jumping into the water.
Sunfish (Intermediate): Crawl stroke, breathing and jumping into deep water.
Sting Rays (Advanced): Improve crawl stroke, backstroke, deep water.
Barracudas (Beginner): Improve crawl stroke and backstroke, diving, safety, swimming 25 yards.
Dolphins (Intermediate): Elementary backstroke and breaststroke and underwater swimming.
Seals (Advanced): Sidestroke, starts and turns, distance swimming and backstroke.
Adults: Designed to accommodate adults (ages 16 and over) of all levels of ability in a group setting.

*class sizes are limited to 6 participants.

Private swim lessons are also available for would-be swimmers of all ages. A minimum of two lessons is required. Lesson scheduling is subject to instructor availability.
