Construction is expected to start this spring on an expansive and modern aquatic facility at Ford Woods Park. The 63-year-old former pool was demolished in summer 2017 in anticipation of this new aquatic facility, which will accommodate 393 patrons. The new compound will feature a zero-depth entry pool, two water slides, splash features and shade areas on the deck. It will also include a lap area. Additionally, a family-friendly bathhouse will be constructed. The pool is scheduled to be completed in the fall and opened at the start of the 2019 swimming season. The Dearborn City Council approved the funding at its Jan. 30 meeting.
The second update to Dearborn's pools is taking place at Levagood Park, where the diving well at Dunworth Memorial Pool is being converted to accommodate two water slides. The Dunworth construction is expected to be completed by the Saturday before Memorial Day but may face weather-dependent delays. The other pools at the Dunworth complex will open on schedule that day.
